Furniture Design

Out walking on a winters night, like a moth to a flame, I was drawn to an assortment of forlorn looking furniture, hidden in the depths of an open cart lodge that were destined for a Christmas bonfire.

Finding that they were no longer wanted, they were loaded and brought back to the studio to start a series of restoration.

Inspired by Britains many miraculous moths and their intricate patterns, the furniture is gradually being designed, restored and hand painted to give them all a new colourful lease of life.

The first finished piece is a side table/drinks trolley based on the myriad colours and detailed design of the Oleander hawkmoth. I removed the rusted old castors and added some vintage alternatives, sanded it down and layered on coats of Little Greene Paint Company and Earthborn lacquer.

The second is a bedside table purporting to be a Yellow shell moth, aptly called for the moths resemblance to that of seashells that it lives amongst on the south coast of England.
