Arts & Crafts home
A full redesign and restoration of an Arts & Crafts garden with views reaching out to Lyme Bay and Devon.
While retaining aspects of the historic structure in the cottage garden, a paved courtyard has been added to house the apothecary garden which will be used for workshops and guests. A restored brick rose arch leads the visitor into the 'working' areas of the vegetable and cutting gardens with elements designed alongside local craftsmen such as a rustic oak fence around the vegetable area.
A continuation of hedged garden rooms was designed to add a level of intimacy to the main house garden. The design sought to craft a more intricate journey through the garden; adding a topiary walk set within a species-rich meadow, an ornamental pool with bespoke water features and sculptural features such as a dead hedge 'nest', constructed from lime branches and twigs from earlier pruning.
An overall masterplan for both new and existing planting areas was designed to marry the beautifully mature shrubs with a more contemporary herbaceous planting plan.
